2014 and one small word

I have been considering what word I wanted to encompass this year for me. I am so glad I read this by Elise, because I think there was a risk of overextending myself and not being realistic. There were many words that came to mind for this project but rather than rushing and grabbing at the first one, I waited patiently. Then I watched this video about vulnerability and imperfection. It resonated with me and I realised that all the words that I had chosen in the past few weeks were all focused around being passionate, accepting myself and taking the time to immerse myself into life.

My 2014 word is 'embrace'.

1. [with object] hold (someone) closely in one’s arms, especially as a sign of affection: Aunt Sophie embraced her warmly [no object]:the two embraced, holding each other tightly

2. accept (a belief, theory, or change) willingly and enthusiastically: besides traditional methods, artists are embracing new technology

3. include or contain (something) as a constituent part: his career embraces a number of activities—composing, playing, and acting

Last year, I was so tentative and anxious about everything I did, I was so wary of my own ideas, potential and drive. This year, I am going to put myself out there, acknowledge that not everything is going to work out the way I anticipate it but embrace the result anyway because life is rich, special and a one off. As a control freak, I am going to embrace that not everything is under my control and enjoy uncertainty for what it is (ha, we'll see how that part goes).

If you haven't watched the vulnerability talk on TED, I'd highly recommend it, it's pretty short and really addictive.

Do you have one word for 2014?
